Who's asking: Me
Of course this is a silly question, because I already know the answer:
Matthew and Henry Lavinder are four years old today! Happy birthday, guys.
Swamped and melting today, and if the weather doesn't break I am going to have to kill someone, most likely myself. Sorry about the failure to post something real, but my brain's not working the way it's supposed to. My ancestors were Northern people ...

I don't mean to sound like a princess, Clair -- but have you heard of window-unit air conditioners? A friend gave me a used one, years ago in Chicago, for my ground floor, studio apartment (read, no cross-ventilation), and I swear it saved my life.
And probably his, too.
And my neighbor's.
And the guy on the El sitting next to me...

Strangely enough, you are not the first person to inform me of the existence of these new-fangled machines.
I am morally opposed to air conditioning, except when I really, really, really need it. It gives me a headache, and I can never get the temperature right. I lived in Washington, DC for seven years without A/C -- granted, most of that time was in basements -- and I never had it in Los Angeles.
One of the things I like about Maine is that we only need it for a week or two every summer, and that's just not worth the hassle of buying a unit, putting it in, taking it out, and figuring out where to store it for nine months out of the year.
Of course, I realize this reduces my right to whine about the heat...
You should have come down to Boothbay harbor. Breese off the ocean, and the Petting aquarium at the DMR complex is Air conditioned!

Thanks Aunt Clair!!
